A Fully Parametric Window Family
This project involved the development of a fully parametric residential window family in Autodesk Revit, based on the analysis of a real window to understand its dimensions, hardware components, and operational behaviour. The model was structured using a modular nested family approach, enabling flexible control over key elements such as the frame, window leaf, hardware, and integrated blind system. Through the use of reference planes, constraints, and labelled parameters, the window was designed to adapt dynamically to changes in size, materials, and opening configurations, including both vertical and horizontal operation.
In this short screen recording, I demonstrate a fully parametric window family that I recently developed in Autodesk Revit.
The model allows control over:
• Window width and height
• Material finishes
• Opening behaviour and operational states
These behaviours are controlled through reference planes, dimensional constraints, and labelled parameters, ensuring that the geometry adjusts correctly when parameters change.
Window rotation was controlled through a reference line with an angular parameter, allowing the leaf to rotate according to user input.
Additional nested families were used to simulate the vertical opening mechanism, enabling the window to operate in both vertical and horizontal configurations.
